Final Project: Patterns

April 1, 2008 by Erin

For my final processing project I found a sketch that I really admired, and changed it around a little bit. I changed the parameters of the recursions, changed the colors around, and added a saveframe() to it. I then played around with the sketch for awhile collecting the frames and then I picked my favourite one. I then proceeded to transfer it onto canvas, which is my actual project.

Programming art is one of my favourite things, because there is so much that can be done with it. There’s always something magical about putting a bunch of code together, or screwing around with somebody else’s, and then pressing the play button and seeing something visual come to life. To me, the next step would be for it to become even more tangible, even more alive. This is why I decided to paint the output of the sketch. Step by step, I messed around with the code, then messed around with the paints. Eventually my goal is to take this project further and make it even more tangible. Perhaps in the form of a physical computing project.

This is my version of the sketch:
(Hold left click and drag horizontally to create recursions. Hold the right click and drag vertically to change the angles of the lines)

And below is a small gallery of the other images that were output using the saveframe function, as well as some images of the painting.

Exercise 10: Animationzorz

Using arrays in processing to make a .gif

Dancy Guy

Exercise 9: Digitalism

October 24, 2007 by Erin

Basically we got to screw around with the source code for the game “Breakout”, and we were to make something pretty.

This is the pretty thing I made

I don’t think the link works though, so I’ll fix it.

Exercise 8: Crazy Coffee Bean Lines

October 10, 2007 by Erin

This is the kind of shit Brianne would come up with after
one of her nights of Chocolate covered coffee bean eating.

The boxes are generated with random lines which redraw every frame.
Fun/Nauseating

Crazy!

Exercise 7: (just for fun)

October 10, 2007 by Erin

Move your mouse around the screen!
Go on, do it!

Weeeee!

Exercise 6: Epilepsy to the MAX, yo.

October 3, 2007 by Erin

Experimenting with the color data type.
Randomly generated rectangles in randomly generated colours,
with randomly generated strokes and backgrounds.
(click and hold for an epileptic attack, click once at a time for a more
“ooh, pretty” effect)

Please, no more seizures!

Exercise 5: Funky up ‘dem balls

October 3, 2007 by Erin

Let’s add some colour to ‘dem ‘dere balls huh?
The colours of the balls have been generated randomly,
as well as the transparency.

Pretty!

Exercise 4: Bounce More Balls

October 3, 2007 by Erin

We have upped the fun with balls by adding a few hundred more.
They are random shapes and sizes, and also have different speeds.

Now that’s a lot of balls.

Exercise 3: Bounce that Ball

October 3, 2007 by Erin

A ball is generated and moves around the sketch, bouncing off
the edges of the window.

Fun

Exercise 2: Uber Epilepsy

September 26, 2007 by Erin

The same thing as the previous sketch, only to increase the craziness, the background also refreshes with a different random colour than the rectangle.

Have another seizure!
